On Wednesday 21 October 2015, Boundarymoor Lily of Merebrow, handled by Paul Johnson, won the Mid Wales Working Gundog Society's Novice A/V Spaniel Field Trial at Powys Castle, Welshpool.
Judges - Mr Dave Pope and Mr Martin Hook.
We had a very warm, humid, day at Powys Castle. The ground cover was thick bracken, quite high in places, with some steep hills and brambles. The day started off with a full card of 16 novice dogs which were put through their paces by judges Dave Pope and Martin Hook.
The trial started off in patches of bracken and the dogs were soon amongst the birds including pheasant and partridge, even the occasional deer! There was some nice hunting and retrieving on show.
All of the dogs on the left hand side went through with four dogs going out on the right.
Lily hunted with drive and style completing some lovely retrieves in very dense bracken. Paul trusted her to find the bird, sent her into the bracken and left her to hunt the area; Lily never faltered. She backed up her first run with another good second run.
After each dog had completed their second run the judges deliberated, closed their books and the trial was declared over.
Lily was a worthy winner!
